Conversation Game At Home

Here is a connection that one of our classmates made with his family after reading 'Conversations Games' By Sophie Rea

A reflection on how the game went for me.

"The questions I asked based on the text sparked conversations for my family and myself. I began the conversation by asking a question of my family at dinner time. It started the conversation based around each others day.  It was good because we could connect with each other about our day. We had a good long conversation over dinner and we had a lot of conversations throughout the time at the dinner table. After dinner, I felt like I connected with everyone at the table. We started to sit on the couch and continued our conversations before we went to our bedrooms to do what we normally do. We watched a movie then played on the Nintendo Switch together as a family. It was really fun and now we do this nightly because we all enjoyed it.  This was the first time we had conversations about our day at dinner time and I loved it.

Here are his 4 questions that I came up with.

            1. How was your day? What did you do?
            2. Where did you go today? Was it fun?
            3. Did you go to _____ Today? What did you have there?
            4. Did you come home for lunch today? How was that?

Were there things that you might change? Why?
"I wouldn't change anything  about them because all 4 questions that I asked  helped to strike up a conversation at the dinner table and were all talking to each other and it was really fun and we now do it every night. We asked each other questions and it works, questions + ideas + sharing + listening  makes great conversation."

  1. Hi there Luca it is Kerri here. Thank you for sharing this thoughtful summary of the learning you took from the text 'Conversation games'. For a short text we got a lot from it aye!

I LOVE that it has inspired you and your family to have conversations around the dinner table - when I was young we used to do this too. Your questions are great too and I can imagine they would have started some interesting conversation!

Your 'conversation' algorithm is perfect I reckon. I don't think I would change anything about it! I look forward to your next post about next week's text.
