Week 24 - 28 May: Conversation Games by Sophie Rea
I hope this text helps to create some great conversations in your classroom!
It would be interesting if you could reply to this post by answering some of the questions on the image. Maybe you can use a question to start a conversation here!
AND you might like to share your 'algorithm' when you have thought about it.
Hi, Mrs B here from Avonhead School in Christchurch. We have just read Conversation Games and have written a blog post in our books. Should the students be posting their thoughts here on this thread, or am I in the wrong place?? Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteHi Darelle. YES PLEASE. They can reply in here OR you can do your own post. Let me know if you need more help.
DeleteHello, my name is Kurt and this other guy next to me is Oliver, we're both Year 8 from Rongokako in Tamatea Intermediate. We think that the Conversation Game is really interesting because you get to hear stories and learn on how to make a good conversation with someone. By playing this game, you will also learn how to ask good questions and dig in deeper to see how they are feeling. This really helped us because when we converse with each other and ask how they are feeling, and if they say good we just don’t listen or care and we just keep going and not ask how they REALLY feel. This also helped us to be more aware of what they are saying, so now when people say “I’m good.” we say what do you mean by “good”, so then this continues the conversation even more. This is what we think about the Conversation Game and we hope to see other people’s perspectives.
ReplyDeleteHi I'm Theo and I'm a Year 8 at Avonhead School. Thank for writing this post. I also think that this story helps you to get deeper into a conversation and seeing how other people feel. This story made realise that my family does a lot of talking at the dinner table, which made me realise this is. really good thing. Does this story make you realise that your family do a lot of talking?
DeleteHi Theo it is Kerri here. I enjoyed reading your reflection about the text. I think you are very lucky that you and your family have conversations at the dinner table. What makes a conversation 'go deeper' do you think?
Deletehi my name is Callum and i go to Avonhead school. A few day a go my teacher read conversation games. It made me think about how many people sit at the table and talk. Do you sit at the table and talk?
ReplyDeleteHi my name is Ava. I am a year 7 from Avonhead School in ChristChurch. Today my teacher read "Conversation Games" to the class. At my house, we do sit together at meal times (excluding lunch) and we do talk to each other but hearing this story made me think about some things and now I wish we would do it more. Did you enjoy the story? And do you wish your family would do this at your house more too?
ReplyDeleteHi I’m Felix. I’m in year 7 at Avonhead School. Today my teacher read Conversation Games. After that story was read I thought that maybe my family could start doing that and it was crazy how much they knew about each other. What did you enjoy about it?
ReplyDeleteHi my name is Finn and I go to Avonhead school. Today my teacher read me a book called conversation games. The book reminded me that I enjoy eating with my family however we never do. Do you like eating with your family?
ReplyDeleteHi I’m Henry I’m a year 8 at Avonhead. Reading the Conversation Games, I thought it sounded like a good idea for families to use at the dinner table because sometimes it’s hard to talk about your feelings but it’s easy when others are doing the same. I’m definitely going to suggest it to my family. I think it also gets everyone off a device and interactive with their family. It seems safe because you trust your family and they trust you so you can talk about whatever.
ReplyDeleteWhat did you enjoy about it?
Hi Henry it is Kerri here. I think your reflection about Conversation Games is very thoughtful. And you are right - it is easier to express things when others are sharing too. Do you think we all spend too much time on devices? How many hours a day do you think? I am on mine quite a bit too:(
