We've finally got ourselves together here at Te Puru School! We posted to Twitter after we made a whole load of cool biscuits (our own style!)...but Twitter swallowed the videos and they disappeared! In the middle of illness, days out and full-on crazy going on, we took time to create our own sculpture based on last week's text. Each part represents the creator in some way. I'll let the students explain their own art.
Here we all are with our sculpture...
My box's meaning really represents me in a way only I truly understand. The bottom half is my history. World war 2 (the nazi flag) Covid (you'll find virus signs around the whole box) and patterns in the middle. The different patterns represent my different life. The waves on the edges represent change and the colours in them represent the English flags colours. At the top is the present. Airplanes at the top represent my move. Cats with love hearts around them represent the love for my cat, Tibbs. The two robbins on the left and right side represent my great uncle, Robin, who is left in England. The crown represents my name, because in some language my name means princess.
My box represents me because it has a book and me and my whole family enjoy reading . It has a piano because I am learning piano and my parents both took music lessons for a while. The reason the piano looks like waves is because I love the beach and swimming. There is a kiwi to represent New Zealand and a maple leaf with the pattern of the Canadian flag to represent Canada. And right in the middle there is a heart with me,mum, dad, and joe. And that is why that box represents me.
Why i did my designs, i did an orca whale because it is one of my favourite animals orcas live in the sea so i drew waves crashing over the sea and fish in the sea because you can't have a sea without animals, then i drew a fire and aries sign and ram ears because that is my zodiac sign thats my birthday sign, then i did a maori turtle design and stingray design because i am maori and i also did koros on the side.
The unnamed body part I made was an arm and on my box's arm is a rose to
represent my family and a stingray that is my spirit animal and a netball
to represent me doing netball for two years.
And I drew space with planets but the favorite part on my box is ……everything The blackness on the front represents the challenge to reach the answer to the problem. The black circles on the back are all of the ideas swirling around in my head. The lattice on the sides represents the neural network of my mind.
On the top of my box I did all the colour swirls to represent different emotions and change because I have had lot of that.I have the flag of the Netherlands on it because half of my family lives there.
I also have the recycling symbol because my family is very good at that.
The spiral represents nature because I like nature. The zig zags with lines represents a girder which represents the sturdiness of my personality. The smiley faces represent my natural happiness. The dots represent ideas because I usually have lots of ideas. circles represent rain and when it's raining and when I get to stay inside and I enjoy that. This is why it represents me.
This box represents me, because I have had a grey cat since I was here in New Zealand. My favorite food will be pizza, and one of my favorite activities, is drawing, And i like video games.
Hey Team Te Puru it is Kerri here.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic idea to create an individual artwork which then is part of a bigger one. Very clever!
Every one of you have shared the details of the designs you have used and I love that you have thought really deeply about it all. I especially love "the lattice on the sides represents the neural network of my mind". I love that "dots represent ideas" and also love "colour swirls represent different emotions". These are all fabulous metaphors and very clever.
My favourite piece of figurative language is this "the zig zags with lines represent a girder which represents the sturdiness of my personality".
Thank you for sharing this wonderful sculpture and I hope that learning about Reweti's artwork has got you thinking about ways you can create sculptures that use everyday materials.
